Editing

Editing is much harder than I thought it would be. It's becoming clear that some of the shots we have taken should 'roll on' more smoothly, or there are shots we should have filmed to go inbetween others, so the storyline makes better sense. But, we are trying to work with/around this problem and it's going alright.

The editing is pretty much finished, theres some small changes that need to made, and clips that need adding, but it should take less than half an hour to sort that out, although we still need to think of some appropriate backing music, and neaten the editing up.

Second Day of Filming

22/01/13
Filming - Day Two.

Today we managed to get every single bit of our filming done for our PE task! We used two cameras this time, making sure we got lots of varied shots. We managed to get it all done in just under two hours, hopefully we've got every shot we need done for continuity editing.

First Day Of Filming

Day One Of Shooting! 16/01/13

Today our group went out to do our first few shots for our PE task. We decided to film in our chosen film location (pictured in posts below) at about 11am, we believed it would be less busy and more accessible at this time of day, as less people would be passing through the corridors.

We managed to film the majority of our 'corridor shots' within the hour we had to film, but then decided to film afterschool too. This way the Resource Centre wouldn't be as busy and therefore we could get more filming done, and also not disturb anyone working.

Unfortunately, we didn't get all our filming done today, so we plan to do some more on Friday. We've planned with our actors to get them to bring the same clothes they wore for today, and make sure they have rehearsed their dialogue, as this will be the next thing to shoot.

Dialogue

First Dialogue Piece:

Faith: Ayup, where you off to?!

Leanne: I got a mystery letter! From the boy I've been texting, Luke! It says I have to meet him in the library! It'll be our first meeting!

Faith: Ohh! Hope it goes well! Tell me all about it later!

Leanne: Will do!

Second Dialogue Piece:

Faith: Just bumped into Leanne, she's meeting Luke!

Me: Luke?!

Faith: Yeah, the boy she's been speaking to?

Me: Wait! I've been talking to someone named Luke too! I got a letter this morning, he's meeting me in the...

In Unison: the library!!!

*shocked face at realisation*

Actor

We've decided it would be alot easier to choose an actor to perform in our clip. Therefore we can concentrate on what is going on behind camera, and ensure we get all the shots we'd like to. For our storyline, we need at least 4 characters, so an extra person was needed too.

The actor we've chosen has free periods whilst we have media lessons, so if we need to do any shooting in lesson time, it fits perfectly!

Location

These are a few pictures of where we have decided to film for our PE task. We believed that the Resource Centre would be the best location to film, as it could resemble a cafe or library where the characters could 'first' meet. The majority of the clip will be shot in the corridor leading to the Resource Centre.

Shot Ideas

A few pictures of our actor in parts our chosen location(s). The images are taken at the angles we hope to use. They aid our research and also give us a better insight into what shots to use and what would look the best in our clip.

Storyboard

Below is an animated image of my groups storyboard. I created it on Pixton. It's pretty brief, but gives us a more detailed insight into what our clip may look like and what shots to use, than the sticky note storyboard we created before.

180 Degree Rule

This is a short video that explains the 180 Degree Rule. I found this video very helpful because I struggled to understand what the Rule was with just verbal demonstration. Below the video, is another video, this time an example. Taken from the film Leon, this clip demonstrates the 180 degree rule perfectly. Hopefully my group's clip will turn out something like this in the Preliminary Exercise.

Example Of Match On Action

Here's an unprofessional Match On Action shot. I'd like my group to acheive something very similar to this.

A Good Example Of A Shot Reverse Shot

This is a professional example of a Shot/Reverse Shot. From about 0:14 seconds in.

Preliminary Task - Brief

The brief for our preliminary task was to prduce a short clip to show our understanding of the basic media micro elements, Mise En Scene, Editing, Sound and Camerawork.

We must include:

- Shot/Reverse Shot
- Match On Action
- Dialogue
- 180 degree rule

Introduction to my blog!

Hello!!
I chose Media Studies because I would like to be a journalist in the future. I am interested in magazine work and what work goes on behind the camera in TV and film. The course also goes well with my other subjects, English A Level and Health and Social Studies.

In my spare time I like to spend time with my friends, we often chill out watching films or go out. I listen to alot of music too! My favourite artists/bands are Ed Sheeran, Foster The People, Bastille, My Chemical Romance, Snow Patrol, Dog Is Dead, Two Door Cinema Club, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The View, Arctic Monkeys, Reverand and the Makers and McFly.

I am a huge fan of the Harry Potter and The Hunger Games books, and therefore a big fan of the movies. My favourite film from the HP series is The Half Blood Prince, the narrative is brilliant! My least favourite is The Prisoner of Azkaban, but that is one of my favourite books!

I love to perform! I used to dance everyday whilst I was at school, and performed in every production. My favourite musical is Billy Elliot.
